May 9th 2015 marked the 30th Anniversary of the passing of one of Blackpool’s most famous ‘Stars’, Reginald Dixon, MBE, universally known as MR BLACKPOOL.
A tribute to Mr Dixon, can be found to the right hand side of the stage in the Tower Ballroom, and carries the following inscription:
THIS TRIBUTE IS IN HONOUR OF REGINALD DIXON, MBE
KNOWN TO MILLIONS THE WORLD OVER AS MR BLACKPOOL
FROM 1930 – 1970 HIS MASTERY OF THE TOWER BALLROOM WURLITZER
ORGAN CREATED A MUSICAL LEGEND WHICH WILL LIVE FOREVER.

This is what Reginald Dixon said in September 1956, when he had the privilege of switching on the Blackpool Illuminations…

Let me tell you what Blackpool means to me and perhaps to you also. It means fun and laughter, music and song, sparkling eyes and dancing feet. It also means rest for holidaymakers from everyday cares and worries; everyday anxieties are banished for a while. When I play the organ I see many things which you do not realise. I look in my magic mirror – as I call it – and it gives me great joy to feel that I am playing a small part in this wonderful Blackpool which brings health and happiness to seven million people every year. We in Blackpool, not only in show business, but in hotels, boarding houses and shops, always try to live up to an ideal – Shakespeare said it long ago – ‘Our true intent is all for your delight’.
May He Rest In Peace, Amen.
